HOW STATION TIME SIGNALS WORK

With a train in the station the following train operator first sees the ST 10 sign (10 is the speed).
The next signal aspect is RED over an illumunated "10".
This begins a relay that is timed to clear after the leading train leaves the station and the specified duration for the formula:

...................................DISTANCE (to the signal)
.................TIME ..=...-------------------------------
.................................................SPEED

As the rear of the leading train is only on the green part of the control line, the signal will clear to proceed with caution after the time expires for the following train.

As with automatic signals, a train on the regular control line cause the signal to display a STOP indication.
